Strawberry Planters - How to Use a Strawberry Planter

Strawberry planters are unique, space-saving, solutions for growing strawberries. It is easy to use a strawberry planter, although a few basic guidelines should be observed. The design of most planters is based on saving space. Since strawberries have shallow roots and tend to hang, they can grow in strawberry planters, which have several "pockets" coming out of the sides of the planters. Planters and strawberry pots are available in a range of sizes. Before you buy a strawberry planter, first consider the amount of space available for it, as well as the desired yield of strawberries. Usually a single strawberry plant will fit in each pocket, and a few strawberry plants will fit on the top of the planter. Buying a strawberry planter is easy; they are available at most garden stores and online. The best place to obtain a strawberry pot or planter is online because of the selection and low prices. Strawberry planters are commonly made of terra cotta, although plastic ones are available as well.

It is simple to use a various planters and pots to grow strawberries. Simply, plant the strawberries starting at the bottommost pocket of the strawberry planter. Fill the planter with moistened potting soil until the level of the soil fills the first pocket, and place a strawberry plant in the first pocket of the container. To ensure that the entire receptacle receives water, a tube drilled with holes (a piece of PVC pipe or a paper towel tube would both work) in the center of the pot, but not covering the drainage hole. Then, continue filling the pot with soil and planting strawberry plants in the pockets until the planter is full. Depending on the size of the strawberry pot, several strawberry plants can fit in the top of the strawberry planter.

Strawberry

The soil in a strawberry planter should always be kept moist. Water the plants carefully to ensure that the entire strawberry pot is being watered, instead of merely the top layer of soil. Strawberries thrive in full sun, and can fruit from spring through early fall, depending on the variety of strawberry. As perennials, strawberries will continue producing fruit every year. To protect your planter over winter, move the entire planter into an area sheltered from frost, such as a garage.

Strawberry Fields - The Classic Breakfast Shake

Coconut Water Breakfast Shake Recipes - Strawberry Fields, Loco Coco Coffee, and Blueberry Maca Haze

  • 1 1/2 cups of coconut water
  • 1 cup of frozen strawberries. When strawberries are in season, I like to thinly slice and freeze my own. Thinly sliced puree better in the blender, but whole strawberries will work. Let the whole strawberries sit in the blender, submerged in the coco water for a couple of minutes to let them thaw out. Then, add the other ingredients.
  • 1/2 to a whole banana. Sometimes, when I have bananas that I haven't eaten, that get really soft before they're too old, I slice them up and put them in the freezer for my shakes.
  • 1/3 cup of raw oatmeal
  • Splash of orange juice
  • For a protein boost, add two scoops of all-natural, unsalted peanut butter or vanilla protein powder (if you don't mind adding "unnatural" ingredients).
  • Blend for 30-60 seconds

Loco Coco Coffee - The"SpoilurSelf" Breakfast Shake

  • We want about 1 1/2 cups of coffee that were brewed using coconut water. It's better to plan ahead and put the coffee in the refrigerator the night before so it's cold. Coconut water has a very mild sweetness and will be undetectable in your next one or two batches of coffee that are brewed.
  • One medium to large banana that has been thinly sliced and frozen.
  • 2-3 large tablespoons of all natural, unsalted peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup of raw oatmeal
  • Put in the blender and blend
  • While blending, add about 2 or three tablespoons of chocolate syrup, preferably, an all natural, dark chocolate syrup.

Blueberry Maca Haze - Antioxidant Packed - Mayan Warrior Breakfast Shake

  • 1 1/2 cups of coconut water
  • 2 tablespoons of maca powder. Maca is a root, indiginous to Peru that has been used to for thousands of years. It's benefits include: increased energy and endurance, it helps build muscle, it rejuvenates skin and can help improve sexual function.
  • 1 cup of frozen blueberries.
  • 1/2 banana
  • 2-3 large tablespoons of all natural unsalted peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup raw oatmeal
  • Blend for 30-60 seconds

Strawberry Care - Actions in Fall Determine Success in Spring

Contrary to popular belief  the success of your spring and summer strawberry harvest is largely dependent on good care in Autumn. In autumn you lay the basis for a successful strawberry fruit production. It doesn't really matter if you have an established strawberry patch have been active just one season.  Talking from experience many gardeners will tell you this is a pretty good example of the 80/20 rule.

Here are a few tips to improve the yield and even the taste of your strawberries next spring:

Strawberry

Yearly renovation is an important part of caring for June-bearing strawberries. If you are growing this variety in matted rows, you should begin season-end plant care by renovating the bed after the harvest. Just in time renovation keeps your strawberry bed productive for three to four years.

Strawberry Care - Actions in Fall Determine Success in Spring

Here are the steps you need to follow:

After harvest, mow foliage to within an inch of the strawberry crowns, remove all clippings. Clean the patch to keep it free bed free of all discarded plant matter

Although some gardeners may advise you to rake or till disease-free clippings into the soil, in addition to harboring disease, clippings from renovation may contain weed seeds. For that reason it's best to keep your strawberry beds free of all discarded plant matter.

  • remove any remaining weeds and narrowing your rows to six to twelve inches wide.
  • thin your strawberry plants, retaining only strong healthy specimens, with about four to six inches between plants.
  • keep your the bed moist, but not wet, to promote new growth for next year.

Although strawberries do well in areas that have some cool weather, frost is disastrous to your strawberry bed. A basic part of caring for this plant is to protect it with a layer of mulch during the winter. As well as protecting your strawberries from killing frosts, a three to four inch layer of hay or straw will provide even temperatures to protect them from the possibility of refreezing after an early spring or mid-winter thaw.

Don't mulch with fallen leaves since leaves tend to compact and will smother new growth in your strawberry bed.

Although many cultivators of strawberries are hardy to 15 Fahrenheit (-10C), mulch should be applied before the temperature dips to 20F (-6C) to protect buds and new growth from killing frosts. Do be sure all growth has stopped before you mulch. Otherwise, the crowns may decay. Winter mulch should be left in place until the first signs of spring growth.

Then, remove just enough to let the growth come through. Your winter strawberry care is finished and you are ready for a fruitful growing season! When you are interested in getting the most of from your fruit trees, plants and bushes you will find a lot information at our site.

A Negative Calorie Food List

To make a negative calorie food list, we must be precisely clear on what we mean. There has been some confusion about this phrase. Some have thought that this kind of food contains no calories at all. This can't be right as long as all kinds of food contains at least some energy.

We're going to present you with a list of this kind of food. If you follow it, not necessarly without any other kinds of food, it will increase metabolism naturally, and the result will be weight loss - especially compared with eating a meal where these foods are not included.

Strawberry

Now, it's time for a definition. When we say nagative calorie food, we mean foods which contain so little energy that the body actually uses more energy to digest and absorb the nutrients. So if you subtract calories you'll burn from the calories you eat, the result will be negative. Only by digesting the food you have eaten, there will be a net loss of energy or a negative energy balance. This is what must happen if you want to lose weight but with this food you don't have to do anything but eat it to accomplish that.

A Negative Calorie Food List

You can also eat protein in combination with such food. Good protein will help you control your appetite as well as increase your metabolism because the total amount of calories are not reduced too much.

Here is the list:

Vegetables

Fennel, aubergine, gourd, broccoli, leek, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, marrow, cauliflower, peppers, celery, radish, chicory, spinach, cress, tomato, cucumber, turnip.

Fruits

Apricot, mandarin orange, blackberry, melon canteloupe, blackcurrant, peaches, clementines, plums, damsons, raspberry, grapefruit. rhubarb, guava, strawberry, honeydew melon, tangerine, lemon, watermelon.

Strawberry Hermit Crab Care Sheet

Don't let the name hermit crab fool you. Hermit crabs are anything BUT hermits. They thrive on social interaction. Having only one hermit crab in a tank can actually drive them crazy I believe. I have had people bring me Strawberry Hermit Crabs that are acting weird and invariably, its because they were by themselves.

Anyway, I am here to help you take care of your Strawberry Hermit Crab properly. Different Hermit Crabs from different locals actually have different needs based upon the species. You don't take care of a Strawberry Hermit Crab quite like you do a Purple Pincher Crab. And when I say Strawberry Hermit Crab, I mean Coenobita perlatus.

Strawberry

Description

Strawberry Hermit Crab Care Sheet

The most distinctive thing about a Strawberry Hermit Crab is its color. Generally bright strawberry red in color with white granual markings, with shiny gray-black eyes. They have thick bodies and thick legs for climbing.

Housing

Most people buy their Strawberry Hermit Crabs at a mall kiosk or pet store. And most of them get a small plastic box to hold the crab. I tell ya right now, that box is NOT good for a crabitat (crab habitat). It's fine for a temporary shelter, but your crabs need some room to roam and interact.

You should have bought at least 2 crabs, preferably 3, to get started. I would recommend starting with a 10 gallon aquarium. They are easy to find and inexpensive. Although larger is better. I recommend that you add an under tank heater to keep the temp up.

Line the bottom of the tank in sand or coconut fiber (Marketed as Forest Bedding®, Bed-A-Beast®, and Eco-Earth®). This is so your crab has something to dig around in. I prefer a combination of coconut fiber and sand. It provides a stable substrate for them to dig in. You need it deep enough for them to bury themselves in, but not so deep it negates an undertank heater.

Next you need something for them to climb on. I use a few pieces of choya wood for them to climb on. Some plastic plants will work as well. Strawberry Hermit Crabs are known to be destructive. So they will make a mess out of that well organized crabitat you just made. Be prepared for that.

Maintain a temperature of at least 72F degrees and I would say no higher than 90f degrees, and a humidity of 70%. You want a "tropical" feel for the crabs. If it gets to hot, you will smell a musty smell and notice a brown liquid coming from the crabs. TURN DOWN THE HEAT IF THAT HAPPENS!

Diet

The very first thing you need for a Strawberry Hermit Crab is a bowl of salt water. You can get safe salt at your local pet store or online, DO NOT USE TABLE SALT, its contains iodine, which kills crabs. Use a pet grade saltwater aquarium salt. Please use distilled water, or filtered and dechlorinated water. Straight tap water can kill your crabs. Chlorine causes blisters on their gills, causing a slow painful death.

Strawberry Hermit Crabs need 2 bowls of water. One salt one fresh. Make sure the bowl is not so deep the crab can drown in it. Place a sponge in each water bowl for the crabs. It is also a good idea to place a piece of wood, a stone, or something in the water that the crab can grab onto in case it gets distressed in the water. That way it can get itself out.

One food bowl should suffice. It Is very important to feed your Strawberry Hermit Crab a diet rich in carotene. Some of the best foods are sun dried shrimp, plankton, and color enhancing fish food. Make sure they always have access to these foods, and your crab will maintain a healthy red/orange color.

Maintenance

I feel that bathing a crab is mostly unnecessary. Only in certain circumstances will I bath them. When they first come home, after a molt, and thats about it.

Spot cleaning is best done weekly. Removing bits of exo skeleton, food bits, and other debris. Place all the climbing toys back, or its a good time for a remodel, keep the crabs from getting bored. If using coconut fiber substrate, clean what can be seen, and every few months change out all of the substrate.

Following these tips will help you keep a happy healthy crab population.

Can You Treat a Yeast Infection With Yogurt - Strawberry Or Banana?

You've heard people talk about it but you wondered if it's just a myth. You're curious because you have that familiar feeling and you know you have another yeast infection. You don't feel like going to the store and spending more money on creams so you ask yourself can you really treat yeast infections with yogurt? Yes you can treat a yeast infection with yogurt. But what if you could treat a yeast infection without all the mess? I'll tell you how later.

Before we start talking about treating your yeast infection, you want to make sure that you have one. If you're not sure, the best thing to do is seek medical advice. Three out of four women have at least one yeast infection in their lives. And 50% of those will have more than one. So most of us know when we're having a yeast infection. But some of the symptoms could also be symptoms of a bacterial infection or an STD.

Strawberry

Why does yogurt work and how do you treat a yeast infection with yogurt.
Yeast is normally present in our bodies all the time. It is the overgrowth of yeast that gives us the problem. Your vagina is normally pretty acidic which keeps the yeast in check. Sometimes that balance is changed by taking antibiotics, birth control pills, or using certain personal care products. When that happens the yeast starts to multiply faster than our bodies can kill it off. The active cultures in yogurt can immediately start to kill off the yeast.

Can You Treat a Yeast Infection With Yogurt - Strawberry Or Banana?

There are a few different ways to treat a yeast infection with yogurt. (This may be quite graphic for some.) First off, only use regular, sugar free yogurt with active cultures. If you use flavored yogurt, the sugar will negate the effects of the active cultures. You can dip a tampon in the yogurt and place it in your vagina. If you can't use a tampon, you need some type of syringe, like a turkey baster to put the yogurt in. You can also spread some yogurt directly on the labia for relief. Wear a light pad for leakage. You will feel relief quickly and after a few days, you should be symptom free. Some people recommend eating yogurt regularly to prevent infections from returning.

Are you thinking, 'yuk'? Well is it better than placing a clove of garlic or a slice of grapefruit in your vagina? These are also home remedies for treating a yeast infection. But, what if you could treat a yeast infection with just a couple sprays under your tongue, three times a day?

Can You Treat a Yeast Infection With Yogurt - Strawberry Or Banana?

If you're not thrilled with the idea of treating a yeast infection with yogurt or sticking anything in your irritated vagina, go to www.treatment-for-yeast-infection.biz for more information about treatments without all the mess.

Come fall and winter, there is nothing like homemade strawberry jam on your favorite toast or on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

There are many good recipes for jam. I used a standard boxed pectin recipe with fresh picked strawberries from a local farm. My mouth was watering for homemade strawberry jam. I have not ever had a failure in my jam making, but this year I did. It was runny. It would make a great ice cream Sunday topper.

Strawberry

Most cooking mistakes can be fixed, so I researched my options. I called the 800 number on the pectin box. The help line operator had no information on how to fix runny jam. Next I called the local Cooperative Extension. Over the years, I have found them to be a great source of information. This year, they came to the rescue, again. Here is the recipe to fix failed strawberry jam. You can use this recipe to fix up to 8 cups of runny jam. These portions are per cup of jam.

Strawberry Jam Failure - Fix It

2 tablespoons of sugar. 1 tablespoon of water 1 ½ teaspoon powdered pectin

Mix pectin and water; bring them to a boil while you are stirring constantly. Add runny strawberry jam and sugar and stir constantly. Bring the mixture to a full rolling boil over high heat. Boil for ½ minute. Then remove the pot from heat. Skim the top of an foam that may have formed. Put jam in hot jars and use new lids. Process the jam in a hot water bath for 10 minutes. Let the jars sit over night.

Strawberry Jam Failure - Fix It

There is nothing like homemade strawberry jam. I invite you to try your hand at making a batch. If you have ever made jam and it didn't set up, don't be discouraged. Tuck this recipe away with your jam recipe for future reference and "just in case." It does work. I tried it this year! Yum. The Best Strawberry Shortcake Recipe Ever

This article will continue with my series of New Orleans recipes.

Growing up in New Orleans was a lot of fun and we were blessed with a family of wonderful cooks. I have continued to publish some of these great recipes that I enjoyed while growing up in New Orleans. The legacy of cooking continues and has been carried on by my sisters and brothers as well as myself.

Strawberry

My mother and grandmother cooked all the time including desserts. There was always a good dessert around the house because like all good cooks they liked to see people eating their creations. My grandmother lived right around the corner from our house in New Orleans, so if mother wasn't cooking then Mata (grandmother) was. Of course most times both were cooking so you could eat both places and get your fill.

The Best Strawberry Shortcake Recipe Ever

My father was a little selective in the variety of things that he ate. My father loves desserts and I have a cousin who spent a lot of time at my house and my father and mother were her favorite aunt and uncle. Eunette was also a good cook and always made things that my father would like to eat.

She made her famous strawberry shortcake which my father loved and that was a great compliment if Uncle Edgar likes it. So the name was born for her strawberry shortcake which I am going to give you today. I have added her strawberry shortcake recipe for your enjoyment.

Sprinkle it with granulated sugar and bake the biscuit in a 4250 oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden. Carefully transfer the biscuit to a rack and cool. Cut the top one-

quarter off the entire biscuit ring with a serrated knife. Transfer the bottom to a platter and spoon the macerated strawberries and the liquid over it. In a bowl. beat the cream with the confectioners sugar until it just holds a soft peak. Beat in the sour cream and beat the mixture until it is stiff. (It is best to use a chilled bowl). Top the macerated strawberries with the cream mixture and the remaining 1/4 of the strawberries and cover the mixture with the biscuit top.

Serves 8. Enjoy!

Home-made Strawberry Wine - The Simplest Recipe

With a perfect blend of the freshest and sweetest fruits, strawberry wine is among the delicate and exquisite wines you can make at home. If you are unrelenting in making a strawberry wine, you should plan this in advance especially if you are thinking of serving this for a particular occasion because strawberry wines need to age for one year.

To start the winemaking process, gather the needed ingredients. They include seven pounds of whole, freshly picked strawberry fruits. Wash them and hull. You will also need 2 galloons of boiling water, lemon juice and five pounds of sugar.

Strawberry

To begin the preparation, mash the strawberry fruits in a large crock, or any fitting casserole. Cover the mashed strawberries with boiling water. Add the lemon juice and stir the mixture quickly for around two minutes. You may set this aside, covering with a linen cloth. Rest the crock in a dark and cool area, and make sure to stir it everyday for a week.

Home-made Strawberry Wine - The Simplest Recipe

After a week, purify the concoction through cheesecloth that is double layered and strain them in a large bowl, thoroughly discarding the strawberry pulp. Mix the strawberry liquid and the sugar, stirring them constantly until the sugar is dissolved. Pour into a container and let it stand for another week, still stirring daily.

When the second week is over, you may pour the strawberry juice into a galloon of wine bottle, preferably glass-made. Cork them loosely. Let it rest in a dark and cool place for about three months. When you see that the wine is no longer bubbling and perfectly clear, you may pour it into individual wine bottles, cork them and let them age for a year. By doing so, you will be serving and tasting a deliciously homemade strawberry wine. This recipe can yield about 40 servings or two galloons.

Strawberry wine may vary accordingly. You can choose to taste it semi sweet, lightly sweet or sour or completely sweet.

Strawberries provide favorable effects to one's health. In addition to having low amount of calories and fats, these fruits are also rich in fiber, folate, antioxidants, potassium and vitamin C. compared to bananas, oranges and apples, they top as far as nutrient contents are concerned.

Apart from strawberry wine, the fruit can also be a perfect ingredient to make cereals, salads, yogurts, muffins, cakes and desserts. They can be eaten dried, frozen or fresh.

Strawberry Champagne Cake and Strawberry Champagne Buttercream Frosting Recipe

For Easter I wanted to make a spectacular treat for my guests, and after careful contemplation I decided to make a Strawberry Champagne cake. I thought this was perfect for two reasons. First, it has been a long winter full of no fresh berries. The stores are replenishing their shelves with lush, ripe berries, and I want in! Secondly, I thought the strawberries mixed with champagne would be the perfect celebratory cake to eat when I watched Prince William and Princess Kate marry. Yes, I woke up at 4 am to watch the festivities, and yes, I ate strawberry champagne cake at 8 am! I had planned on having a glass of gorgeous pink strawberry flavored champagne along with my slice of cake, but, alas, I couldn't bring myself to do it so early in the day.

Anyway, I searched online and found a recipe that looked pretty good. And then I made it spectacular by adding my own special touches. I also have a favorite buttercream frosting recipe that I always use, and I used it for this cake, and added extra delicious ingredients. There is much debate when it comes to changing a recipe -- some are for it, and some are against it. I think it is essential to keep your liquid to dry ingredients about the same as it calls for in the recipe. But when it comes to adding fresh fruit, chocolate, nuts, I say knock yourself out! Eyeball it, make sure it looks (smells) right, and go to town. These small touches really make a recipe spectacular.

Strawberry

To make the cake even more special I decided to add fresh strawberries and ganache to the center instead of just the strawberry buttercream frosting. This is a good idea in theory, however, I do not recommend using fresh fruit in a cake. I ended up having little streams pouring out of my cake, and I had a very sticky puddle on my cake platter. The sugar in the frosting brings out the juices in the fresh fruit. If you are intent on using fresh berries (as am I) I would recommend making a strawberry (or any other fruit or berry) sauce. This way you will still have the fresh ingredients without the sticky mess.

Strawberry Champagne Cake and Strawberry Champagne Buttercream Frosting Recipe

The cake was a hit! My family loved it, and my uncle even said that it would have to be his next birthday cake (what a compliment!). I think of all the desserts I have made, this is a fan favorite.

Strawberry Champagne cake:

1 cup (2 sticks) butter
2 cup sugar
2 egg

3 cups cake flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt

½ cup champagne
½ cup pureed strawberries

1 tsp vanilla extract
1 ½ cup chopped fresh strawberries

4 egg whites

Cream butter and sugar until light and smooth. Add the egg and mix until completely incorporated.

In a separate bowl combine and sift the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a dish combine the puree and champagne. Alternate adding the flour and strawberry mixtures to the butter mixture. Start and end with flour for a fluffy cake. Add the vanilla. Add the strawberries mixing until just incorporated. Fold in half the egg whites, then fold in the remainder.

I like to put the batter into a piping bag to fill the cupcake tins. Batter should reach just over ¾ of the tin.

Bake at 350 for 35 minutes.

Strawberry Buttercream Frosting

1 cup butter
1 package (2 pounds) powdered sugar
heaping 1/3 cup pureed strawberries
1 tsp vanilla
chocolate shavings for garnish

Cream the butter until light and fluffy. With continuous mixing, add a bit of the powdered sugar (add some of the strawberry puree if it gets too thick). Keep adding the sugar in small increments until completely blended with the butter. Add the remainder of the strawberry puree and the vanilla. If the frosting is still thick, add some champagne! Add chocolate shavings on top of the frosted cupcake for a decadent treat!

Happy baking!

10 Trout Fishing Tips For Fishing At Strawberry Reservoir Utah

Ask any angler and they will tell you that Strawberry Reservoir is Utah's most important trout fishery. More people cast their hooks into it's cool water than in any other lake in Utah. Their are a number of important factors which contribute to Strawberry Reservoir's trout producing muscle power such as:

1. optimum feed production

Strawberry

2. perfect climate for Trout habitat

10 Trout Fishing Tips For Fishing At Strawberry Reservoir Utah

3. premium spawning habitat for trout.

Strawberry Reservoir is home to three species of sport fish: Bear Lake Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout and Kokanee Salmon. These fish are abundant and big in Strawberry Reservoir.

To make the most out of your next Trout fishing trip at Strawberry Reservoir, use these 10 trout fishing tips when you fish Strawberry Reservoir and you'll always catch more fish than you'll ever be able to take home!

1. Fish early morning or early evening. This is when the trout are most actively feeding at Strawberry Reservoir.

2. Monitor the lake water temperature. Keep in mind that when the water temperature at Strawberry Reservoir rises above 70 degrees, trout seek cooler water. That means, you'll only find them in shaded or deeper areas.

3. When the temperatures get too warm, fish the shaded pockets of water at Strawberry Reservoir.

4. Use a boat on Strawberry Reservoir. In the summer, fishing from a boat at Strawberry allows you to reach the deeper water where the fish hideout while seeking cooler conditions. If you don't have a boat, you can rent one at Strawberry Bay Marina.

5. Using a fish finder will tell you where the trout are and also it will tell you and how deep they are at Strawberry Reservoir.

6. It's a fact that trout have a keen sense of smell, and they won't bite your hook if your lure or bait carries an unnatural odor. To remedy this, simply rub dirt or grass on your hands to eliminate unnatural odors. You could even clean a fish you catch, to get that scent on your hands.

7. Trout spook at shadows. Trout notice things that move, including your shadow. So when casting your line, cast it in the opposite direction, away from your shadow.

8. Trout have a very keen sense of vision and they can see through the water remarkably well. So when you venture out to fish, be sure to wear clothing which is less apt to cause you to stand out against your background. Wear only drab colored clothing.

9. Monitor the weather and the moon phases and brightness. Only fish when trout are most active. When the moon is bright, fish are active, which tends to reduce their daytime feeding activity.

10. Using gang hooks allows you to present the live bait in a more natural manner.

These tips are guaranteed to bring you tremendous fishing success at Strawberry Reservoir.
